Do You Need a Workplace Spouse?

Do you need a workplace spouse? Just finished a press interview on workplace spouses. The article will be expoloring the issue of people who” couple up” in the workplace and spend a lot of time together. We are not talking about having a passionate affair.  The concept simply means you hang out with this person constantly.  We have all seen the workplace spouse deal in action.  It is the buddy concept taken to the next level. Here is the good news. Having someone that you trust at works lowers stress and increases satisfaction. However, do you  really have to go so far as to have a workplace spouse? Dr. K says no. That is too far. Having a workplace spouse can keep you from developing a broader network of relationships at varying levels of intensity and trust. So, develop relationships but don’t get too committed!

Puzzles or Problems?

What is the difference between a puzzle and a problem? To quote Reg Revans,” There is an existing solution to a puzzle and it simple needs to be found.  There is no existing solution to a problem.  The solution has to be worked out by a process of inquiry that begins at the point where one does not know what to do next. ” Leadership makes a real visible difference in uncertain situations.  How much time are you spending approaching your job as a puzzle? We live in an economic climate with a lot of complexity and a lack of clear right and wrong answers.  Try approaching your challenges as problems with a spirit of inquiry and see what happens.  That is a very heavy post for Friday!!
